Backdrops and Depth
« on: November 13, 2007, 07:41:46 PM »
I was reading some posts on how to change the backdrop to a custom picture w/o writing a WPS. I can format the picture fine, but how do I change the depth? I have a Sansa e200.

As in the bitmap depth to say 16-bit? Grab any photo editing software. I use photo shop when you save as a .bmp make sure you select the 16-bit option when it pops up.

I'm almost certain the color depth of the photo can stay 24-bit, it's the width and height that matter. Rockbox's bitmap loading code should automatically adapt it to the screen bit-depth on load (it must do this anyway to match the pixel format).

Oh I'm sorry, I did not notice that you said you have a sansa in your first post. I doubt that the backdrop would have to be 16 bits then. I was selfishly thinking about my ipod. Sorry :)

What I said should be true for all color players.
