Exiting games

Hey,
I was wondering if theres a way to exit most games without having to actually turn off my ipod.  any help?  I cant seem to find out how to exit.

for most games, on my ipod nano, either hitting select or select+menu will exit. on doom, though, i have to turn hold on and that brings up the main menu. then, pick "exit" from there
