I can apply a theme but it doesnt change the layout of the now playing screen

it just shows the background for the theme, and the normal now playing layout, not the modified one for whatever theme

Can you tell us what theme you're trying to use?

Blackglass with album art

(i also saw one earlier where it was based sorta on older rock, with an amp nob for volume... i was looking for that too)

Unfortunately, the Blackglass with AA theme which was updated yesterday to work with official Rockbox builds will no longer work - the newly introduced left margin WPS tag has changed from being part of %s to being its own tag %m, so that it will work for both scrolling and non-scrolling lines.

You'll either need to adapt the WPS to the change yourself, or wait for a new version of the theme to be released.
