I pod trouble please help

last night i plugged in my ipod to charge through a wall outlet and left it there untill morning.
when i woke up and started listenting, i pressed the play button to turn it on and it turned on then off real fast.

the onely way i have gotton it to work is to press menu to turn it on then choose the song.

the play button is totally freaking out. not pausing anything and turning everything off at random.

i have the new ipod nano

In which case you don't have rockbox on it, and this is therefore offtopic...
