Replaygain, Crossfade
« on: August 30, 2005, 12:24:03 AM »
I noticed in the new Wiki Rockbox Manual a section regarding Replaygain as a feature. Quite excited, I downloaded the latest daily build but it's not there for my Player. Is this still on its way, or is the player not capable of running this feature, so it wasn't in my build

Also I noticed a setting description for a Cross-Fader which I assume is also not for Archos Players as this is specifically mentioned elsewhere on this site as something which cannot be done on the archos hardware. Is this assumption correct or has a way been found. The reason I'm hopeful is that according to this article on the now defunct Rio line of DAPs, it's was not hardware that allowed this feature but some very crafty programming.

The ReplayGain support is not for the Archos version (yet) AFAIK.

Correct. The Crossfade feature is for the music players with software codecs, which right now mean the iriver h1x0 series only.

And no, you don't need fancy hardware to do crossfading, you just need proper working code.

replaygain seems possible to impliment on archos to some extent, using the mp3gain technique of adjusting the levels before decoding

Before the current implementation I had replaygain implemented (on iriver) by changing the mixer volume at the start of every song. This should also be possible on archos I think.
