Gigabeat F20 No sound right ear
« on: November 12, 2007, 05:12:30 PM »
It has worked fine for a couple of months with Rockbox but today I couldn't get any sound from the right earphone.. I tried a couple of different ones, tried to update to the latest build, installed the bootloader again but no result.. I even tried the original Toshiba v3 firmware but still I only got sound from the left earphone..

Must be a hardware malfunction?
Can I do something about it?

I've searched for others with the same problem but this seems to be rare..

Have you checked the balance setting in the sound settings?

If it's the same in the OF it's a hardware problem. Maybe you headphone jack has a bad connection. Open it up and see if you can fix it.

Oops, missed the part about the problem also being there in the OF (original firmware). Most probably a hardware problem then.  :'(

Take off the top and bottom clips with a small screw driver
Take off the 2 screw of the back case at the bottom of the player
slide the back case and you have the headphone jack available
You have 2 capacitors at the bottom of the jack
check the signal before and after as there are in line with the output
The plus side is the sound chip output, the negative is the headphone
