Transcode movies
johnson4:
Just a FYI,
Magic DVD Ripper converts DVDs into other file formats and it has a mpeg preset with 320X240 size.
(it's a Profile called "VCD(MPEG1)")
Of course after converting the movie to your computer you need to convert it again with one of the method shown in the Wiki, but the result is VERY clear and smooth on my Gigabeat F.
Thank you so SO much of the upgrades to mpegplayer, this plugin is much more usable with the resume and seek features and Im lovin it.

Why? Is the bitrate too high or something?
johnson4:
Well in Magic Ripper you can create custom profiles and I made a new one with the bitrate lowered to 650 and audio to 128 but when I try to play it on the Gigabeat I see this message
--- Code: ---missing packet start code
prefix : 00 at 1214
--- End code ---
This happens without the menu showing up, any idea what could be wrong?
should I try MPEG2 instead of MPEG1, maybe?
This is what the magic ripper profile file looks like , if that can help
--- Code: ---#
#
# Magic DVD Ripper Device Profile
#
#
TYPECHAR v
VOLUME 0
ZOOM 0
FRAMERATE 4
VIDEO_BITRATE 650
AUDIO_BITRATE_INDEX 7
AUDIO_BITRATE 128
W4:3 320
H4:3 240
W16:9 320
H16:9 240
STANDARD_VCD 0
VIDEO_CODEC MPEG1
AUDIO_CODEC MPEG1
FAVORITE 1
--- End code ---
thanks

As Scotty once said, "That's the ticket, laddie!"
johnson4:
tryied it out with MPEG2 and Im still getting the same error
Anyone know what if that message means specifically?
------------EDIT-----------------------------
well actually I did get it to work with the settings below but for some reason the program is stretching the aspect ratio in MPEG2
Paste this into a file called rockbox.dpf
--- Code: ---#
#
# Magic DVD Ripper Device Profile
#
#
TYPECHAR v
VOLUME 0
ZOOM 0
FRAMERATE 4
VIDEO_BITRATE 650
AUDIO_BITRATE_INDEX 7
AUDIO_BITRATE 128
W4:3 320
H4:3 240
W16:9 320
H16:9 240
STANDARD_VCD 0
VIDEO_CODEC MPEG2
AUDIO_CODEC MPEG2
FAVORITE 1
--- End code ---
In magic dvd ripper go to Options-->Import Profiles
and upload the file rockbox.dpf
Then select "rockbox" as your profile.
This will play on a gigabeat but it is WAY clearer if you do it as I originally described
Thanks for the help.
