Been away for a while, can someone give me the current situation?

I arrived in Madrid about 8 months ago and some punk stole my gear, including my H340. So I haven't been following Rockbox since then, but now (only half a year later) I can actually afford a new mp3 player. I believe I am going to get another H340 since they're still more versatile than anything else (as far as I know), but I'm wondering how Rockbox itself has changed since March.

How's the crashing with crossfading? With recording?
The recording crashes were a shame because 1 crash in 20 is still enough to put you off using it. I'd hate that to happen in front of an English class.

Has there been any major change worth knowing about?

Is there support for a newer/better mp3 player? By better, I mean with similar features in a newer product. I still want recording and USB hosting. I see that the Zen Vision:M is still out of our reach, but is there anything else worth considering, or should I stick with the ol' H340? What is the most recommended player to Rockbox now?

If your interest is in recording, I would say to stick with the earlier iriver units (like the H1X0, H3X0).
