5.5G 80gb Ipod keeps freezing on mp3 playback.

2 weeks ago I bought a brand new 5.5G 80GB ipod. Without ever installing itunes, I put on rockbox on it, quickly customized it with new WPS, fonts, etc..

Right away I noticed it liked to freeze up, and pretty often at that. Music would still be playing, but controls would be unresponsive, and the DB bar in WPS screen would no longer move. Only thing to do is to reset it.

I thought issue may have been in the WPS, or in the settings that I was using, so to troubleshoot this, I did a drive format and a clean install, and only using default settings. It still freezes.

I am using the latest 60/80GB  built from the front page.
What should I do? I love rockbox, but it is virtually unusable when it freezes at least once every hour.

Can you give us some info, like which SVN build are you running, and what theme is it that you say is giving you trouble?

I'm running and testing Rockbox on a 30GB video, and I'm not having any issue with lockups on my iPod. But one possible solution (seems to have worked for my end, anyway :)) is to go into Settings > General Settings > System > Idle Poweroff, and turn Idle Poweroff completely off. This was causing me some trouble with older builds from a few months back; turning off Idle Poweroff stopped the random freezes on my iPod.

Try it and see how it works.

Lamda, will this prevent the ipod from turning off with the idlepoweroff disabled/turned off?

I'm having the same issues as the OP, however I'm using an unsupported build, so I won't ask for help on the issue; just wanting to know what the alternative effect of disabling idlepoweroff will have on battery  life and the ipod actually turning off.

LambdaCalculus:
I personally set Idle Poweroff completely off because it seemed to have been causing freezes on my iPod some months back. But it will prevent the iPod from shutting down. Having Idle Poweroff on and off didn't seem to change battery life at all, but I haven't used it in months, so I don't know if it really does affect the battery life or not.

Thanks for the response Lambda, how do you actually turn the ipod off with the idle power off set to off?
