New Installation and Post Installation Questions - IPOD Video 60g

Hi all-

Just did a new install on ipod video 60g and ran into a bunch of copies of the same mp3 file.  Rebuilt db a number of times and ran the disk tidy script.  Still there.  Ended up removing all the folders and mp3s since many of the files had rather strange names like xrfp.mp3 and others had real names. I ended up removing everything since I could not really tell the level or number of duplicate.  Now I need to load about 20g of mp3s back and could mount the ipod either on my debian file server and run rsync against things or use a desktop and Nautilus to copy things.  What's the easiest way to move large numbers of mp3s?  There are about 4000 or so give or take 3.  I'm pretty used to console tools like rsync and I could mount the ipod on my Etch file server and rsync them.

Just wanted to see after installation if anyone had an approach with a bunch of mp3s that need to be placed on the device.  Other than the dupes, everything is working fine and I think the dupes were caused by earlier use with itunes or even the linux tools like rythymbox.

Thanks for the reply; much appreciated.  I did the rsync thing this morning and moved about 4000 songs into a Music directory and started the database initialize.  The docs say it may take awhile to do the initial part since it has to go through all the songs, munch them into a db, etc.  Its been running about 40 minutes now and I can hear the ipod disk drive still doing its thing.  Is there a way to estimate how long it would take and should I instead do lesser numbers of songs and do multiple passes and just do updates?  All of the mp3s rsync'ed to the ipod okay.

I'm also gonna go back and read the fine manual and see what I gain by even using the database.  Others have reflashed their ipods back to factory default and tried again.  I don't mind doing that since I still manage to have one XP box with itunes on it at this point.
