writing to ipod and erasing - linux - 30 gig video
(1/1)
Insomniac20k:
Hey guys I only have access to an Ubuntu computer right now and I'm trying to install Rockbox onto a 30 gig 5 gen ipod video. I downloaded the zip file and when I try to extract it to the ipod it says I don't have permission to write to it.
Also I would like to erase everything off the ipod. Can I do this without itunes? gtkpod doesn't seem to cooperate.
GodEater:
It seems unusual that Ubuntu mounts your ipod without giving your rights to make changes to it. I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen on my PC.
Have you tried using rbutil to do the Rockbox installation ?
In any event though - you should be able to delete the ipod's content by doing this :
1) Figure out where your ipod is mounted, it's usually "/media//*
