iPod Nano: Computer can't detect
« on: November 06, 2007, 05:42:20 PM »
I installed Rockbox on my Nano, and it worked great. The games and the music worked like a charm. I had to reinstall Doom about three times, and on the third time, the unzipper froze, so I gave up. Next day, I go to plug the iPod in. iTunes comes on, syncs with it, the iPod gives me the "Ok to disconnect" and such, but when I go to My Computer, the drive stays there for a couple seconds, then disappears. iTunes can still see it, and when I disconnect it, it still makes a beeping noise (like always). But I can only access the drive for about 10 or 15 seconds before it disappears completely.

Also, when I put the iPod in, it seems to disconnect me to the internet (which is on a USB card). My USB mouse still works.

Have I done something wrong?

EDIT: I tried to run ipodpatcher.exe, tells me there are no iPods connected

Does this happen both when running Apple firmware and Disk Mode?

Yes.

I think I just found out that it's related to iTunes. Is there anyway I can keep iTunes from coming up when I plug in the iPod? (Already tried disabling automatic syncing, still doesn't work)

EDIT: Found it. The drive comes up in My Computer, but now there's no way to get new songs on my iPod.

Try stopping the processes iPodService.exe and iTunesHelper.exe (i.e. in Task Manager) and see if that helps (also iTunes.exe, but I'm assuming you're starting from a situation where iTunes is not running).
