Not installing, failing at ipodpatcher step (5.5)
« on: November 06, 2007, 02:29:28 PM »
Hey there, after a couple of hours I've decided I can't do this one without some help. I've followed the guides to a T but to no avail. I'm using a mac, by the way, although running Parallels which I assume is fine for messing around with iPods via Windows.

The iPod in question is an 80GB Video
So...

I get up to the ipodpatcher step, and it responds with
Quote
[INFO] Scanning disk devices...
[ERR]  No ipods found, aborting
[ERR]  Please connect your ipod and ensure it is in disk mode
[ERR]  Also ensure that itunes is closed, and that your ipod is not mounted.
[ERR]  Please refer to the Rockbox manual if you continue to have problems.

The iPod has been formatted in the Windows iTunes, I've unzipped the zip file into the iPod's root. I unmounted the iPod but frankly I think it freaked Disk Utility out for some reason. I've also tried the Windows ipodpatcher, but I get the same result. iTunes was always closed.
I haven't tried a different computer or iPod yet but I have tried a different hack (involving the terminal and alterPod, just to get all of the Apple iPod games on there) with two identical iPods (bought same store) and two different computers, both failed in identical ways - kept getting the damn 'Resource busy' thing, no matter what I tried. Perhaps that's something of a clue. For this I even tried taking off 1.0.2 and reinstalling 1.0.1, but that didn't have any effect.

So yeah. This is driving me crazy. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's an ipod video, and not one of the new "ipod classic" ipods?

The current ipod classic Apple firmware is at v1.0.2 - the ipod video firmware is 1.2.1

I don't think it's possible to buy a "brand new" 5G / 5.5G anymore - I've not seen one in the shops for a long time now.

No, for two reasons - one, we don't plan ports owners do, and two, the classic looks a nightmare to do anything with (new undocumented hardware, encrypted firmware).  For more information search the boards, this has been asked and answered many times.
