Sansa 260 Problem - Database hang, Windows
(1/1)
Boog:
Greetings.
I've been happily using Rockbox for about a month or so now on my Sansa e260 without any problems. I figured I'd add a few more albums on today, so I go to plug it into my computer and the original firmware boots up fine. However, each and every time it comes to "Refreshing Database" it gets more than halfway through and the screen just goes black. The wheel stays lit, and the backlight is on, but the screen is completely blank.
Rockbox doesn't have a USB mode does it? (As when I plug it in when booted into the Rockbox firmware, Windows picks up nothing.) Still a newbie to this, so I'm just trying to get used to everything. =/
Now there is almost no way I can get into the original firmware without it hanging/crashing at the database refresh. I know there are ways to boot it into some kind of repair mode, but unfortunately I haven't had the time to track down some answers and my internet connection isn't so hot.
Serves me right for wanting to add the new Queens of the Stone Age in. :C
Any help would be appreciated!

Anything? I can't even get this thing into recovery mode, as it crashes at the Refresh Database more than halfway through.
Anyone have an answer?

AFAIK, the USB mode hasn't been implemented, so it'll be using the Sansa USB mode. Is it crashing when you're transfering the songs or once you've finished and are back in Rockbox? If it's crashing on the Sansa side then you'll probably need to ask on the Sansa support forums.
If it's crashing on the Rockbox side, let us know what the version is you're using. Try updating to the latest version too.

I ran into the same problem and had to upgrade/downgrade the original firmware several times. (It kept happening... I assume it's due the Sansa firmware's inability to handle the ID# tags on one or more of my MP3s... never narrowed it down to which one(s)).
I finally figured out that if you format/reset your Sansa in recovery mode and do a clean firmware update, the Sansa will be in a state where it will either boot to USB if plugged in to your pc or it will boot to the 'choose your language screen' if not plugged in. If you never choose a language, you'll never have to worry about the database refresh hang when booting into USB mode.
Of course you won't be able to use the Sansa firmware, but isn't that why you installed rockbox to begin with?
