IMPORTING 1000+ songs
« on: November 05, 2007, 03:14:41 PM »
I have an ipod 30g and to upload music using rockbox i dragged the music to a folder entitled MUSIC on my ipod.
but this folder can fit only 1000 songs
what do i do to put more
is it as simple as creating a subfolder within MUSIC
or just another totally separate music folder?

You can put them wherever you want, so either in a new subfolder or a new folder, or whatever.

Personally I have mine in

Music
--- Artist A
------ Album A
------ Album B
--- Artist B
------ Album C

etc., but whatever floats your boat.

FAT32 has a limit of ~22000 files in a directory, so that's not it. How exactly does this apparent limit manifest itself?

I thought the limit was ~65,000 for FAT32.  I think the default setting in Rockbox for "Max Files in Dir Browser" is 1000.  You aren't referring to that limit, are you?

Technically yes, but only exclusively using the 8.3 file naming convention

EDIT: I think I was making that up...

I suspect that is the problem. The OP just wrote it as if the problem happened during the drag 'n' drop  :P
The manual is always your friend in these instances...

That makes sense.  Thanks for the info, bascule!

Yeah, I was a bit confused at the phrasing as well.
