active but empty

My 30GB ipod video was working just fine, then all of a sudden, my computer doesn't recognize it. It relises that there is a portable drive, but it thinks that the portable drive is empty. It brings up a window that says "Please insert a disk into drive G:.". What's going on? What should i do? any suggestions?
