updated ID3 tags, run rockbox database update -> don't see changes

(1/1)

gnychis:
Hi all,

I changed the ID3 tags of several albums on my Rockbox'ed iPod video 5.5G, and then I ran the database update 3 times and rebooted in between updates and still have yet to see the changes.  Then I decided to turn autoupdate on and still don't see my ID3 tag changes.  I am not using the iTunes DB (not using gtkpod), I'm writing the files directly to the disk in a Music directory.

Thanks,
George

There are some limitations with database updating if you don't have both directory cache enabled and the database loaded into RAM.  Start my ensuring both of those are enabled, then reboot and start another update.

It can take a very long time to do an update (minutes, if not hours, especially on the 80GB iPod Video).  You may want to leave it on the menu and wait until disk access has stopped (probably best with external power ).  Then reboot one more time and see if that helps.

when i used the iTunes DB, it only took a couple of minutes to update... so if you do straight files it takes much longer?  my load to RAM is not enabled

Update only looks for deleted/added files. It will not update the database with regards to changed tags on existing files. (see http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/DataBase#Update_Now )

To achieve what you want to do you need to initialise (make sure you have backed up your runtime data). Or (if it only concerns a few files and you don't care about run-time data) you can rename the files/the directory they are in. Update once, move them back and update again.
