The sansa key map has very recently been changed, along with the manual.  Are you looking at the current manual for an older build?

Im using a 2 days old build, was looking at the latest manual in pdf actually, which states the power button to be the playback stop function..

Right, and yesterday the sansa keymap was changed.  Hence you are using an old build but looking at a new manual.

You need to update your build.
