So im in a pickle
« on: October 31, 2007, 01:41:34 AM »
I broke my zune, and sent it in. For the time being, my sister gave me her old 2g 4gig Ipod mini. I have never installed rock box on anything before and my friend was helping me out online. I installed the ipodpatcher.exe and everything was fine. I went to create the music folder on the HDD, but it was full with the previous set of music that I put on via Itunes. I go to itunes to do a restore and it freezes. Stupidly, I unplug the ipod hoping that that would help. Instead, my computer is not detecing my ipod when I plug it back in and Im getting this error message:

Error!
can't load file rockbox.ipod
file not found
Hold MENU+SELECT to reboot then SELECT+PLAY for disk mode.

I tried that but it didn't work. Is there a sequence of buttons I can press to reformat or a way I can fix this....?

maybe reinstall rockbox? its saying that rockbox.ipod is not found. which means its not there. extract the newest build and see what it does then.

well I would've but it windows isn't not detecing my ipod, or as an HDD. So I guess this is more of a Ipod question. How do I reformat without being able to plug it in?

You need to boot it into disk mode first. Then instructions on the screen are correct for how to do this. If it's not working for you, it just means you aren't doing it right yet.

umm ok, how long should it take before somthing happens? I did it for about 30 seconds. Is there some pattern where you need to switch the hold on and off?

You don't use the hold switch at all. It needs to be off.

Hold down both the Menu button and the center of the wheel (select) until the screen clears. As soon as the screen is blank, start holding Select + Play.
