text_editor/viewer + special characters

(1/1)

onkel_enno:
If I create a new text file using text_editor with characters like 'ä', 'ü', 'ß', ... then reread them with viewer, the characters are shown wrong.
Now the question is:

a) have I done something wrong?
b) does viewer read the text file wrong?
c) does text_editor save such files wrong?

PaulJam:
The textviewer has its own codepage setting, make sure you select the correct one for your textfile there.
I would expect that the text_editor saves the textfiles either in unicode or in the encoding you have selected in the rockbox settings.

Change the encoding in the Text Viewer.

Thanks for your quick responses, really simple.
Maybe it should be mentioned in the manual, didn't even know that the Text Viewer has options  ;)

Thanks a lot you both
