iPod Will Not Boot
psontis:
I have a 6GB iPod Mini.
I had RockBox installed, which worked perfectly fine.
At a point I didnt use the iPod for a long period of time and when I decided to use it again, it would not start.
The Apple icon appears and then nothing happens.
When connected to the PC through the USB cable it will look like its charging but I don't have access to it as a hard drive in my Windows Explorer. I tried plugging it to a different computer and i was able to see the device, at which point I formated it hoping it would work on my PC through iTunes.
Now it doesn't boot in either OS (iTunes or Rockbox) just the Apple logo appears and then nothing happens.
The device is not under warranty anymore and I am afraid fixing it might be expensive so any suggestions or ideas before I seek technical service from Apple itself would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Chronon:
Try putting it into Disk Mode and see if you can do a restore through iTunes.
psontis:
Somehow it got fully charged and is working on iTune mode (no Rockbox since I formatted it) but still the PC wont recognise it as a mass storage device and iTunes doesn't see the iPod connected in order to do a restore or just through music in.
PS: Thanks for the reply
Febs:
What is "iTune mode"? Did you try putting the player in Disk Mode as Chronon suggested?
psontis:
In order to put in 'Disk Mode' iTunes needs to "see" the iPod, which does not happen.
iPod looks like it's charging but it's nowhere to be found in Windows Explorer or iTunes software.
When I say iTunes mode I mean the iPod is currently running the original OS that it came with.
Is there any other way I could put it in 'Disk Mode' other than through iTunes?
Once I am back home I will go through Apple's FAQs to see if I can dig something there also.
