Sansa e280R and Rockbox USB support
« on: October 27, 2007, 09:08:45 PM »
Just wanted to say I am very excited to have found this software and I am pleased to find so much information on the subject of installing Rockbox on my e280R.  I was able to patch the bootloader and install the software without any problems.  The instructions on this site were amazing.

I do have one question, I apologize in advance if it is a common one... What is the progress of USB support for the e200 line?  I understand that as of now it is not in the official builds and I'm curious if any progress is being made.  I don't mind using Sansa's firmware to add files, it really isn't too inconvenient.  My main concern is that the volume seems low (while using Rockbox only) when I connect my player to an FM transmitter/charger in my car.  If there is a way to work around this through the settings dialogs (which I'm sure there is, you've thought of everything  ;D) an explanation would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help and keep up the great work!

FM transmitters offer only poor music quality even when loud enough. have you looked into hardwiring it? I've got an aspec aux adapter that takes the place of my factory cd changer in my car: cheap and effective.

I have not, but I will take a look at that.  I understand that FM isn't the best way to go, but I do like the portability from vehicle to vehicle.  My comment about volume/quality was more about the fact that the Sansa firmware performs adequately with an FM transmitter but Rockbox does not.

BigBambi answered my question, I just need to be patient.

i just noticed the same volume problem in my car as well (hardwired aux input). i haven't tried out the volume using the sansa firmware yet though. wonder why the volumes would be different?

Rockbox outputs at a line level if you're using the dock connector, and if you set the volume to "0db" this is also line level.

Max volume in the Sansa firmware is seems to be a good deal higher than line level, and evidence suggests they're applying digital gain. This can very easily introduce clipping and distortion.
