Boot to original firmware first?

(1/1)

JasonNovak:
I just installed rockbox onto my e280r, but want it to boot to the original firmware first.  It appears that sansapatcher doesn't work on the r version?  I'm trying to use reversebl.

AlexP:
You can't boot to the OF first without building your own bootloader.  If reversebl is a reversed bootloader that someone has written it is unofficial and unsupported.

P.Opus:
It does not work for the Rhapsody versions.

I tried it.

Since USB support for Rockbox will be out soon, then the need to boot into original firmware will greatly diminish.

Sansa Rhapsody users are especially suceptable for ID10T errors as both .rockbox and original firmware must be kept on the main partition of the box.  Thus a stray format can basically kill both the original firmware and the .rockbox installation.

Limitations in the Sansa Rhapsody prevent loading OF into the hidden partition (I believe the vanilla E200's can have the OF loaded into the hidden partition, so it's not as susceptable to a stray format as the Sansa Rhapsody is).  As a result,  it's always a good idea to keep original firmware lying around so that in case you do something resulting in an ID10T error, (such as formatting your player) you have original firmware to load up in recovery mode.
