rockbox on sansa e250 -
« on: October 26, 2007, 05:30:21 AM »
hello rockbox devs and rockbox users,

im using rockbox on my iriver h140 for a few years now
and recently bought me a sansa e250 player...

i know that the development state isnt comparable with the one
of the iriver h100 series players.

can anyone tell me some "big bugs" and issues concerning the sansa?
ok, usb data transfer isnt working yet and it seems tha i hrear glitches
when using the wheel to turn up/down the volume.
are there any other issues i probably should be aware of?

cheers
oliver

i don't know of any sound glitch with the click wheel...

rockboy plays a bit slow (don't know how that compares to your old player)

other than that, i think its pretty solid.

I agree with the above post.

I have not seen any bugs yet. I am quite surprised this is labeled an unfinished version!

Due to the chipset used on the Sansa, the battery life is definitely lower using Rockbox compared to original OF.

Also USB charging, from what I hear is much slower in Dropbox.  Some threads mention that you should always use OF for charging as well as USB transfers, as USB transfer is not quite implemented in Rockbox.

Thee are definitely some Nit Picks.  I am very satisfied with Rockbox on the E200 series, and Rockbox alone has exteneded the useful life of my Sansa immeasurably, with the SDHC support.

Not to mention Boot up time is definietly much faster in Rockbox than OF.  I just wish Sandisk would release some documentation to the Rockbox team now that the E200 has been "officially" retired.  With the proper documentation, I am sure that the Rockbox team could make the battery life better.  But it's definitely not a problem that really cripples anyone.

It is really not up to Sandisk, but Nvidia who now owns PortalPlayer. The lower battery life problem happens with all PortalPlayer targets.

ok, i see.

i heard some noise during volume adjustment when listening to
a wav file today... is that normal at this state of development on the
e200 or did i do something wrong?

I've been having FLAC problems and problems with switching between codecs on my e250. There is some background noise when the player is loading, but this isn't noticeable when music is playing.

You can find reports (see here)of noise while flash is being accessed.  This also occurs in the OF and so appears to be an inherent hardware issue.  Inductive or capacitive coupling, probably.
