Database troubles
« on: October 23, 2007, 05:36:57 PM »
I recently installed RockBox on my video iPod and it worked well for a while, but all of a sudden when I go into the database and select a song it tries to play a random non-existent music file, for example WMUJ.mp3, which is obviously not a song file. What should I do? Thanks.

WMUJ.mp3 sounds like a filename for a song added with itunes. You sure that the file doesn't exist?

Pretty sure, I have all the syncs and such on iTunes turned off, so it shouldn't be adding anything. How would I check though?

One option would be to attach the iPod to your computer and search the drive for that filename.

When you say "tries to play" do you mean that playback fails?  Please describe in more detail.  It will also be helpful to know which revision of Rockbox you are using.

Well, I press a song title in the database that I put on the device via windows explorer. I press play, it trys to load some random .mp3 file and then says file not found. It does it for every song.

Did you ever add songs via iTunes?  That filename sounds suspiciously like what you would get if iTunes put music on your player.  Maybe you got rid of some auto-synched songs and then re-added them via drag-and-drop.  I would expect something like this to happen in that case.  Try deleting the *.tcd files from your player and re-initialize the database.

Hum, I still can't get it to work. I think I will just format and reinstall rockbox. One question real quick though, if I add songs to my ipod via itunes (mp3, not m4p or whatever it is called) will rock box still pick them up?

Yes, which is what I think the problem is. Itunes songs are in a hidden folder, so you might not see them, but rockbox will, and it'll add them to the database. And if they have DRM, it might see them, but it won't be able to play them.

I have my iTunes install on my Windows partition and, but also so DRM free songs on my ubuntu partition. I put the DRM free ones on the ipod too and even those won't play. I think I am just going to try and reinstall rockbox tomorrow. I'll tell you how it goes. Thanks for your help :).
