Sansa E260R "Show Files" question
« on: October 23, 2007, 12:00:40 PM »
In the Show Files Menu (Settings -> General Setting -> File View -> Show Files) the user is presented with 4 choices (All, Supported, Music, and Playlists).  If I use any choice besides All, I cannot see any of my music files.  I would rather not use All if possible since every folder and file is listed.  When I connect to my computer and open the Sansa (as a removable drive),  the Music folder is shown as a hidden file.  When I set the folder to unhidden and disconnect my player from the computer, I can use the other 3 settings (I prefer the Supported selection).  However, this is only temporary.  If I reboot in the original firmware or reconnect to the computer then the file becomes hidden again and I can't use the Supported selection anymore.  I have to go back and repeat the hidden file trick or set Rockbox to All to see my music.

Does anyone know if this can be corrected or am I doing something wrong?  Thanks.

The Sansa OF will always mark the MUSIC folder as hidden. You can remedy this by just taking all of your music out of that folder and copying it to a new folder (for example, I made a folder called "Tunes" on a friend's Sansa).

Or you can just use the Database.  ;)

Thanks for the help.  I appreciate it.  I do have another question though.  If I create a separate folder (e.g. - Tunes), will the original Sansa firmware detect the music if I decide to use it instead of Rockbox?
Also, does the Database function on Rockbox work the same as the in the original firmware?  I'm not a big fan of the database since folders with random artists can't be played correctly (in my opinion).  You must look for each individual artist or album separately.  This is a hassle if you have a huge folder of of random songs by random people on random albums.

From the last time I tried this (note: this was on a Sansa c240, but it will still apply), I did notice the songs I copied appearing in the Sansa OF. So as far as I know, the Sansa OF should just detect songs on the device, regardless of the folder name.

There's tons of information about the Rockbox Database in both the manual and on the site. I don't really use the Database myself; I prefer browse by files. Perhaps a more fulltime Database user can help you out there.
