but to be able to use your modified .lang file you will need to turn it into a binary .lng file, this can be done manually with genlang but a hideously long command will have to be typed in so it is a lot easier to just build it in the build environment together with rockbox. This is explained in the LangFiles wiki page.

Hehe ;) My point was mainly that you don't need to change the code itself (as that also might scare some people away). I'd suggest using a complete build environment too, and using the vmware image it's rather easy to set that up :)

Not entirely true. What the OP wanted can be done using just a text editor on the *.lng file.
