Can you chagne the names of the filetree? Directories.
« on: October 22, 2007, 12:32:10 PM »
Hey all,

So what I would like to do is change the name of the database to music. Is this possible?

I tried searching but could not find a question like mine.

Thanks

Ben

It's possible, but you would have to change the actual code itself and then compile it.

You don't need to change the code itself, it's sufficient to use a modified language file. Check the wiki on how to create language files.

I'm sorry--one can modify the language file to change the screen headings? Maybe I misunderstood the question.   I couldn't find that information in the wiki.

The language files contain nearly all the text "in" Rockbox. This is to make it translatable. Any string that can be changed to another language can also simply be changed to another string in the same language by editing the language file and reloading it.

So for example, every line in the main menu can be changed simply by creating your own custom english.lang

but to be able to use your modified .lang file you will need to turn it into a binary .lng file, this can be done manually with genlang but a hideously long command will have to be typed in so it is a lot easier to just build it in the build environment together with rockbox. This is explained in the LangFiles wiki page.

Hehe ;) My point was mainly that you don't need to change the code itself (as that also might scare some people away). I'd suggest using a complete build environment too, and using the vmware image it's rather easy to set that up :)

Thanks, and fascinating.  (And I guess I was imprecise, but was trying to get across that one simply can't change a word somewhere and call it a day without more.)

Not entirely true. What the OP wanted can be done using just a text editor on the *.lng file.

Great, further amendment of the above, establishing the ease.

Well I tried editing the *.lng file and nothing happened at all. Could anyone direct me to why this does not work?

Extract the file to the correct folder and then when you start up your player reselect the English language. This may get it to work as i have to do this sometimes when i edit themes.
