First install on Gigabeat

Got my F40 in the mail from ebay and just finished installing rockbox.
I used the manual install instructions, and it went well.  Boot up time is not bad, faster than the OF and on par with rockbox on the Sansa.  Can't see the bother of any hacks to make it faster.  The default font was TOO SMALL to read so I had to browse the font listings to pick a larger one.  I'll probably download a theme I like from the theme web pages (one with larger fonts!) and use that.  

One thing I noticed was that the instructions had the name of the bootloader files in upper case, but in the file window on the pc they showed in lower case.  Then again, FAT32 FS is case neutral.

As I mentioned in response to a different thread the settings menu had a setting for battery ma/h, but all the available choices (1500-2500ma/h) are too high, as the battery in the F40 is probably a 900ma/h unit (though some after market ones are 1200ma/h).

Anyway so far, so good.  Rockbox rocks!  
For my next trick ... when the 16GB CF card I ordered arrives it goes in my ipod mini and that will get the rockbox treatment.  I'll have to compile my own to put the patch in for the CF.
