Is there an easy way to go back to the original system

I bought a gigabeat F40 on ebay to replace one that was stollen from me last month. The gigabeat I bought has the rock box firm ware on it and I just want it to work like my old one did. How can I get rid of the rock box so my gigabeat works like it did out of the box?

You need the original .DAT file that was replaced with the Rockbox bootloader.
As a suggestion, try out Rockbox for a little while, check out the manual. You may find you like it better with a little experience.

Is there anyway I can download the original Dat file. I want to use the gigabeat for subscription music like Napster. The Rock box software does not let me do so.

You'd have to search for it at the Gigabeat homepage. Either a firmware update, or a restore utility. It would infringe their copyrights for anyone here to redistribute the firmware files.

There should be the original firmware in your C:/Program Files/TOSIBA/gigabeat room x.x/#/GBSYSTEM/FWIMG/
if you can't see the GBSYSTEM folder or others make sure that under view you have it so you can see system files.
edit: there's a chance it may not work if the original firmware that was on their gigabeat is different from the firmware you had on your gigabeat. like different versions because they have 3.0 now and not everyone has upgraded so it could just flip out at you.

I guess I should have finished it. lol.
Well if you have found the original .DAT file and the previous user didn't already delete the firmware off of the gigabeat...
1)Copy the file
2)Hook up your gigabeat and access it. Go to the GBSYSTEM folder
3)Go into the FWIMG folder
4)Inside of there you should be able to see 3-4 files. FWIMG00.DAT, FWIMG01.DAT, FWIMG01.DAT.ORIG(this might not be there), FWIMG02.DAT
5)If the FWIMG01.DAT.ORIG is there then delete the one called FWIMG01.DAT and rename the FWIMG01.DAT.ORIG to FWIMG01.DAT
5a)If the FWIMG01.DAT.ORIG is not there, then just paste the FWIMG01.DAT that you copied out of the Gigabeat Room folder.
Hope that helps. Don't be afraid to ask more or to have things clarified.

Hi! I'm new here and I am having this same issue. I didn't really know what I was doing when I tried to install RB and I ended up overwriting the original FWIMG01.DAT (the one that is the original from Toshiba) with the new one from RB. I never created a FWIMG01.DAT.ORIG file from the original, so now it seems that I cannot get back to my original system file. I want to tinker with RB more but I really need to get that original DAT file back and I have no idea where to find it. Again, I don't want the RB file thats easy enough to get, but the original firmware that was supplied from Toshiba and worked right out of the box. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Oh, and I've tried what you said and it didn't work, as in, I can't get back to the original DAT firmware that was from Toshiba. I'm running a F 40 Gigabeat, too.

Fancy sharing what you did to fix it in case anyone else has the same problem?

What if you've replaced the files on the GB with the files in your C:\program files\toshiba\Gigabeat room x.x\GBSYSTEM and you turn it on and it still says RBloader: file not found? I can't get rid of the RBloader because it doesn't see the origional firmware. What then?

Being a bit paranoid, before installing rockbox I made a copy of all of the firmware files to my pc and also copied the MBR and boot sector off the hard disk (using DD). This way If I ever have to replace the hard disk I will have the boot images.

There's a thread somewhere in the hardware section of these forums about gigabeat firmware modding. It has a zip file with a copy of the 3.0 firmware. That should work.
