trouble charging ipod from usb wall adapter
(1/1)
subrama6:
I have a 4g 40gig grayscale ipod that I've just installed rockbox on. First of all, thanks to the developers for a great product. I've looked at the forums, the manual, and the wiki for solutions to my problem, and have tried a variety of things, so I'm hoping there's something else I can try. I have both USB and Firewire cables/wall adapters, and charging works fine with Firewire whether I use a wall adapter or a computer. USB works fine with the computer. However, I can't seem to get the USB to work with the wall adapter. I have tried holding menu from within rockbox while plugging the cable in, as I've read about in the forums and faq, to get charging working. I've also tried rebooting into the Apple firmware before plugging in, and neither seems to work. Is there anything else I might be able to try?
Thanks

Is the wall charger made for something other than an ipod?
Apple has in their spec that the usb data lines must be terminated
with a voltage divider otherwise the charger function of the ipod
might not work. If your ac charger was made for a player other than
an ipod, try getting one made for ipod.
My homebrew usb charger has the data lines terminated with 75k ohm pull up
resistors and 50k pull down resistors as per apples spec.

thanks for the suggestion. unfortunately, it is the apple branded charger that came with the player.

If it works with neither rockbox nor the original firmware I would suggest there is something wrong with your charger. Could you try charging a different iPod with it?
