I've added steps for installation of Rockbox onto a Philips HD1620 to the Wiki. It's in New Ports - Philips HDD63x0. If someone finds problems with what I have written I wont be able to sort it until the end of next week as I'm away on my holls.

Not entirely related, but the GoGear HDD1630 is in SVN and works well enough for everyday use. Plugins all have keymaps, audio playback is very stable, and everything works as it should.

At the very least, the HDD16x0 series should be promoted to Unstable now.

The installation instructions look quite poor.  I would fix those.  You should also document what actually works on the port.  Then tag a bootloader release and get it up to the download server.

The install instructions are updated now. Since the HDD16x0 and HDD63x0 are largely similar, the installation instructions are more or less the same.

The install instructions are updated now.

I meant installation instructions like all the other targets have.  'Download vmware and compile rockbox' is neither a good explanation nor correct (since we have a build system that handles this).  I removed the vmware stuff and added a link to HDD16XX build, but the HDD63XX isn't in the build system yet.  Does it compile?  If so, you should ask Zagor to add it to the build system, then put a link to the zip in the instructions. Then do the same for the bootloaders.

Here's where the port stands:

  • The instructions in the wiki have been updated. You can currently download a build from the wiki page. Bootloaders will be available very soon.
  • The installation method is quite similar to other mi4-based PP targets (H10, m:robe, YH-92x, etc.)

Once the bootloaders are available for download, then this should can be promoted to Unstable status.

Just fyi, the hdd1620/1820/6320 do not have radio hardware. Currently there is no auto detection of  the radio chip (I'm not sure if it's possible). So, if you have one of these players, the radio will show up in the main menu, but will not work.

I'm sure we can easily implement auto detection of the radio hardware. I have to repair my HDD1630 before I can do this, though.

(EDIT) Roll up, roll up... get your builds and bootloaders here: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/GoGearHDD6330#Installation_steps_for_HDD16x0

Just follow the installation instructions on the page.

(Ninja Edit) Proper link!

The Philips GoGear HDD16x0 series was promoted to Unstable last night, so I think we can finally go ahead and lock this thread.

Whatever work needs to be done now (radio detection, etc.) will go into SVN as it's done. If you wish to install Rockbox on your GoGear HDD16x0, please follow the link in the above post. Any questions should go into the appropriate section of the forums.

If you want to help with development, get in touch with us using IRC or sign up for the development mailing list.
