Wavpack skipping issue
« on: October 16, 2007, 08:47:00 AM »
Hi all,

I have a Iriver H140 running the latest release of Rockbox. I have all songs encoded as lossy wavpack ( 400 kbps). Has anything changed with the wavpack codec in the last month or so?

Songs are skipping randomly with the equalizer turned on. With the equalizer on pcm and codec buffers are never full on the "View Audio Thread". I also noticed that everytime it skips the pcm goes to 0.

If the equalizer is turned off, it no longer skips. I have directory cache and replaygain enabled. Everything else is the default settings.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to older builds to confirm that it is a problem with Rockbox. It is possible that my player is on it's way out. Chkdsk did not show anything untoward.

Is there an archive of older builds ( June or July 2007 or earlier)?

Thanks

Why do you need a build from three months ago?

As well, what SVN revision are you having problems with? People often use the term "latest" release to suggest one they downloaded last week, or even last month, which is why we ask for specific details (and remind you there is no "release").

SVN Revision was 15090 - 10/13/2007.

I tried it with r14705 - 9/15/2007 build and had the same issue.

I changed phones recently, stopped using Ety ER-4S and started with Westone UM2. Ety's sounded good with the eq on. I need an older build because it never skipped before.

Thanks

I saw this old post and am very curious, I have two 5.5gen ipod loaded (one with 3.9.1 and 3.10) All my music is encoded with WavPack lossy at 800kbps, these files floor the cpu, 100% boost 80Mhz, system is unresponsive and of course the battery dies in 3hrs. I put some of the same songs on using the lossless feature of wavpack and they play through fine with minimal boosting, the buffer always stays full, playback is smooth, and I can access menus and what not.

Wavpack is quite fast, so it won't use that much CPU.  How are you measuring CPU use?

Edit:  Also, 800kps is high for lossless files, and ridiculous for lossy.  What kind of files are these?

I'm watching the pcm buffer in the debug menu while listening, the buffer empties, playback has a gap then it starts reloading th ebuffer, all the while the cpu is at 80mhz (boost 100%).  I am trying to switch from my 640gb archos 5 imt with m y flac collection to this 240gb ipod 5.5, i used the lossy hybrid option of wavpack to make 800kbps files to save space and keep quality as high as possible ( I'm a bit particular about music quality   ::) ).

i compiled a version with dma and changed sectors from 1024 to 4096, madee a pretty significant difference. Is there a way to free up more memory by dropping some plugins and lowering the memory dedicated to them, dropping voice support and other useless things (recording, databse, radio code)? Like a stripped down minimalist build of RB!
