I CAN'T PATCH FWPATCHER-H320
« on: October 14, 2007, 08:05:34 PM »
I downloaded the fwpatcher to my desktop but when I tried to open the file on my PC (WindowsXP), I'm unable to do it. The open screens shows "Files of type": Firmware,  and it won't let me access any other file on my desktop. I tried to download it on another folder with the same results. What's the problem here? Please help! ???

You need a firmware file from this page to patch. Just don't use the U.S. firmwares, as they are not suppored.

Sorry, I'm new at the Rockbox installation issue. I have everything ready to open RB in my H320 except for the fwpatcher. I opened the link you've mentioned but I can't figure it out which one I need. I tried the one for the firmware I'm using: v1.29K but still the same problem trying to patch it. I do appreciate your help, anyway. :-[

If 1.29K doesn't work for you, try a different version... 1.29J worked great for me.

You don't "open" Rockbox ;) fwpatcher does allow you to access other files on the PC, it just filters on hex files (which the firmware file it needs is).

Besides, you could also use Rockbox Utility for installation. It lacks some documentation but it should simplify the installation process quite a bit.

And I would really appreciate it if you didn't scream the topic as that is really no help.

Well, excuse me!!! I've already been very clear expressing my inexperience with Rockbox. I'm sorry if I used the wrong terminology: ("open" Rockbox)...I hope nobody will lose any sleep because of my dramatic error!!! ;D
Scream the topic???!!! WTF are you talking about?.......... Rockbox Utility?....be more specific, please! not all of us are
expert in Rockbox, you know!

Whoa, slow down there, killer! Before you go ripping out bluebrother's throat, understand that:

A) Typing in all caps counts as "screaming" on the internet, and
B) Rockbox Utility is located right here, and is our in-house installation tool for Rockbox.

You can read the Rockbox manual for your iriver to get the details about how to install.

Finding out about Rockbox Utility it rather easy, a quick look in the announcement forums (which are always a good idea to read ;) ) reveals this thread, besides it being mentioned in the manual (which is linked on the left-side navigation of the page). LambdaCalculus379 already gave you the other common links.

And no, it's not because me being an expert (though I have this badge) but simply using the common lingo for the advertised documentation (and while I don't mind telling you more details I'd even more appreciate you checking the website and searching the forums first ;) )

Err ... asking you to not scream around is "getting out of shape"? Did we answer your question or not? Is it "keeping in shape" to ignore all common (and that means really common!) internet etiquette?
