e200rpatcher
« on: October 14, 2007, 04:00:37 PM »
Hey! For e200rpatcher, does it patch the bootloader AND install the rockbox BL (like sansapatcher)? And, if so, will it move the original firmware to an unused part of the hidden partition?

im wondering the same thing, i have a topic open.  does anyone no if there is a reason to upgrade from the manual way to the patcher? would there be any problems doing so if you are already patched?

OK, if you have patched the BL with the old method, there is no reason to do it with the new method; however, for those who haven't patched the BL yet, the new method is definitely easier.

The new e200rpatcher only patches the bootloader, you still need to un sansapatcher after it successfully patches the bootloader.

The eventual plan is to possibly incorporate sansapatcher into e200rpatcher.

You can't run sansapatcher on an e200r, because the firmware partition isn't accessible via USB.

e200rpatcher currently just patches the original Sansa bootloader so it accepts firmware upgrades.  You then need to install the Rockbox bootloader and Rockbox itself using the instructions in the wiki.

Which of you is right? Jdgordon or Linuxstb?

I got the e200rpatcher thing to work fine, which then told me to go to the next step (which didn't work):

Bootloader installation from Mac OS X

\ Attach your player to your Mac and wait for its icon to appear in Finder.
Open up Disk Utility (in Applications → Utilities) and click on the name of your player (e.g. Sansa e280)       in the list on the left pane. Then click on the “unmount” icon at the top.
Warning: Do not click on the “eject” icon.

Download and open sansa.dmg from http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/sansapatcher/macosx/sansapatcher.dmg and then double-click on the sansapatcher icon inside.
If all has gone well, you should see some information displayed about your player and a message asking you if you wish to install the Rockbox bootloader. Press i followed by ENTER, and sansapatcher will now install the bootloader. After a short time you should see the message “[INFO] Bootloader installed successfully.” Press ENTER again to exit sansapatcher and then quit the Terminal application.

it's this sansapatcher thing that doesnt seem to work. The result is:
sansapatcher v0.6 with v4.0 bootloaders - (C) Dave Chapman 2006-2007
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions.  There is NO
warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

[INFO] Scanning disk devices...
[ERR]  No E200s or C200s found, aborting
[ERR]  Please connect your sansa and ensure it is in UMS mode
[ERR]  Also ensure that your Sansa's main partition is not mounted.
[ERR]  Please refer to the Rockbox manual if you continue to have problems.

Press ENTER to exit sansapatcher :

I've even then tried the rbutilqt graphical interface to no avail! It will install rockbox, but not the bootloader. I've tried everything! Is there something I can drag over manually to get this bootloader thing on there? Thanks
