Reset config settings on Sansa e280
(1/1)
jimbolaya:
Sometimes when fiddling with different themes I end up using a theme that doesn't change the background color. I've ended up with a black text on a black background. I can't use the menus anymore. Is there a way to boot rockbox on the sansa e280 and have it ignore the config file? Thanks.
bluebrother:
edit the file /.rockbox/config.cfg on the player or press the correct button upon boot -- search the forums for the correct button, I don't know it off the top of my head ... (besides, the forum guidelines ask you to do that before asking anyway).

I did search the forums and I can't find the correct button for the sansa. I did find others. I'm looking for a solution that will not require me to connect to the sansa and edit or delete files. Something i can do when I'm away from my computer. Thanks again.

There is a topic here http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=11986.0 which mentions the use of the Hold switch on an iPod, and also mentions the timing is critical.
I tried to test it out on an iPod, but either wasn't successful at switching Hold at the right time, or my expectations were incorrect (I was expecting the default theme to load if the Hold trick worked). I only ever got the OF or my own theme ...
There is a Wiki entry for the Sansa procedure here http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaFAQ#How_to_reset_Rockbox_to_Rockbox describing the procedure (but see the note).

The wiki instructions didn't work for me. I'm using yesterday's daily build of rockbox and I didn't see a bootloader text screen. ??? However, by trial and error, I found out that you need to hold the record button, power on the unit and keep holding the record button until rockbox is running. That will reset the configuration. ;D
