Can I update Sandisks firmware after Rockbox install?
« on: October 13, 2007, 04:46:15 AM »
Got it installed through Windows and running fine. All Rhapsody features still intact! Yeah! I noticed there were no details about which modes to have the player in throughout the install process and seems to be the reason people are having those weird write errors, as I went through that as well. The different firmware updates will change the mode that the player is in.

Anyway my next question would be, can I still update my Sansa firmware as there is a new one available now after doing the Rockbox install? Or will I then have to redo part of the process again? Would I just copy that Firmware file into the Sansa\System directory renamed as OF.mi4 , replacing the present one?

You can do this using sansapatcher. Just run
Code: [Select]
sansapatcher -of filename
where filename is the name of the new Sansa firmware file.

I didn't think sansapatcher worked on the e200R models.

Ah, yes. I forgot that it probably doesn't work yet because the hidden partition is still not accessible on the e200r. For now, just copying over the firmware to the System directory like santod described should would fine.

Yeah, not on an R series model. Thanks for the support on what I thought. I guess I'll try that and see. I was told in another thread that I obviously wouldn't try putting Rockbox on my R series, because I had some cautious questions. Well, I did after feeling sure that I knew my way through the Windows process of patching the bootloader and the rest of it as well.

does that mean we need a certain firmware or are you referring to the playforsure and rhapsody mode.  I am using the rhapsody mode by the way.  I'm getting those write errors too and i was wondering if this was the problem.

I was referring to the Plays For Sure and Rhapsody modes. Must be in Plays For Sure at Step (2.) of Bootloader patching and then set to Rhapsody Mode for Step (3.) Booting Into The Vanilla Bootloader. Make sense? It works this way and this way only , for me at least. No mention of that in the R series install instructions that I ever saw. Hope that helps.

Referring to the instructions here for Bootloader patching and installing through Windows. [url]http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200RInstallation

No problem, glad that worked out for you man. Sure would have saved me some time, would be nice to have those details added to the instructions on that page.

UPDATE!!!

Looks like they have the SansaPatcher working on the R series now and that should actually resolve a lot of peoples' issues, good work guys.
