Help: Remove Database Entries
« on: October 13, 2007, 02:49:25 AM »
Hi. Can somebody please tell me how to remove all database entries? I accidentally added several thousand SID tunes to my database and its now impossible to navigate through :-)

Thank you
Paul

1) This is not an installation question. Please read the forum guidelines.
2) Use the "Initialize" option to rebuild the database from scratch.

I'm sorry - as far as I am concerned, I am in the processing of installing my iPod again and I thought this would be the forum to ask such a question. I really want to delete the database rather than re-build it. In other words, I would like to know which file the database is stored in.. but I suppose I can always look at the source code and find the answer the long way.

Which forum should I post this type of question to?

I guess I should ask the question, is "Once you have booted Rockbox successfully even once, you should voice your concerns in other forums" at all confusing? I thought I made it pretty clear where "installation" ends.

As to your database concern, it's the .tcd files in the .rockbox folder, but re-initializing deletes it before rebuilding it.

Use of the database falls under "Playback and Playlists" though of course, as the guidelines say, if you're at all uncertain post to General Discussion.

Could you point out where the guidelines were unclear as to whether this belonged in this section, or was it simply a case of having not read all of them yet?

It was a case of me not reading the guidelines for every forum and making the mistake of selecting the wrong forum.

I appreciate your help and did apologise. I posted what I thought was a different subject because my post in here was ambiguous - ie. it was actually development related. I don't go out of my way to upset people - I just feel as though you have come down on me like a tonne of bricks.

Sorry if I seem a bit harsh, but these forums have been seen to fall very quickly into a quite disorganized state when it's not made very clear that the rules are expected to be read, and will be enforced.

Apology accepted. Having a small baby in the house I've been trying to grab every opportunity I have to get my little iPod up and running with Rockbox the way I want and I've cut corners every way. I hear you though and will take your comments into account next time.
