Ipod not found problem (entered disk mode)
« on: October 12, 2007, 07:52:40 PM »
Hi. I've been trying to install rockbox on my 30gb ipod video (5th gen) with 1.2.1 software. I've entered disk mode, and am trying to use rockbox utility to install it, but it keeps on telling me Ipod not found. Can anybody help me with this problem? thanks.

- what OS are you using? Are you running windows vista? On vista there are known issues with UAC.
- do you have administrator priviledges?
- if that still fails, check if the command line ipodpatcher recognizes the Ipod -- there have been reports about ipodpatcher working fine which is rather strange as both use the same codebase.

Hi. I am using windows XP. I will try out the ipodpatcher. Was wondering if my software on my ipod had anything to do with it. I read somewhere on the forum that 1.2 firmware wasn't compatible with rockbox, but it was posted in 2006, so I just assumed software wouldn't be a problem.

hey! I have the same problem, except I did use the patcher. I extracted following files onto my Ipod 5th (Video, 80Gig) Generation:

-> rockbox

-> rockbox-ipodvideo64mb

-> rockbox-fonts

then I put the ipod into disc mode by restarting (Menu & Center/select). as soon as it reseted I puched "play" & "center/select).

So far everything was fine the ipod in disc mode and connected to my notebook which runs WinXP home edition, by the way.

I then downloaded the iPodpatcher, as I was told by the manual. I ran it from my desktop. but it couldn't find any iPod device. this is what it says after the introduction above:

[info]  Scanning disc devices...
[ERR]  no ipods found, aborting...
[ERR]  please connect your ipod and ensure it is in disc mode
[ERR]  please refer to the rockbox manual if you continue to have problems

please press ENTER to exit ipodpatcher :

any suggestions???

thanks
Chris

Do you have administrator permissions? Have you installed any software to the Ipod before, like IPL?

Are you sure it's an ipod video (the one that comes in 30GB or 80GB models), and not the new "ipod classic" (the one that comes in 80GB or 160GB models)?  Rockbox doesn't work on the ipod classic.

i'm sorry, it is an ipod classic, was confused because it plays vids. :( is there going to be a rockbox version that will work on that specific ipod? or is it just not possible?

Chris

PS: what's the difference between an iPod Classic 80Gig Version and an iPod Video? I thought that was the same thing!

Lots.

The hardware in the classic is completely and utterly different to that in the iPod Video.

No-one is working on an ipod classic port at this time as far as I know - although there is a little activity on the thread about it in the New Ports section.
