"System Files Missing" on H10 5GB

Hi, I installed rockbox on my 5Gb IRiver H10 by following those steps :
1. I connected my H10 in hard drive mode.
2. I downloaded the most up to date rockbox release and extracted the file on my H10's root. (/.rockbox).
3. I installed the boot loader file in the /system directory on my Iriver.

After following those steps under linux and windows, with both automatic and manual installation instructions, I still got the "System Files Missing" message on startup. My device tells me to restore the system files by running the Iriver firmware updater, but I would prefer having a working rockbox installation. Could someone please help me ?

"System files missing" means you have an invalid H10.mi4 file. Usually, that means you have a MTP H10 and downloaded the UMS rockbox bootloader or vice versa.

I have a similar problem.  I converted mine to rockbox a while ago (back in January and still works) and want to upgrade to the latest code.  The first time I tried it, I copied over the newer rockbox folder and I was getting codec errors when trying to playback my mp3 files.  The subsequent time, I tried to start clean and replace everything and I was getting the missing files error.  Basically every variation I try, I break it and have to restore it to the last known working rockbox install.

Mine is an H10 5GB and here is what is in the filesystem with the old working install:

I honestly think that I was lucky in getting it to work the first time around.  Can anyone provide me with a simple way to wipe this thing out and start with the latest rockbox version on my H10?  I connect to the device via UMS "emergency mode" and move files via the USB connection, if that matters.

Just delete the whole .rockbox directory and the rockbox.h10 file in /. Next, download the latest build from http://build.rockbox.org/ and unzip it to the root (/) directory of your H10. Finally, place this file in the System directory.

Now I've got a whole new menu system to get my head around, but it is running with the latest code...

My problem is only slightly related to this topic.  I did not install rockbox properly onto my H10.

I did not unzip the contents onto the player.  They went onto my PC harddrive.  I then loaded H10.mi4 file onto my player.  Not surprisingly, the player will not boot because the other rockbox files are not on the player.  Did I brick the player?

The player tries to boot; gives an error message and then shuts off.  I think I am screwed.

Unzip the rockbox files to your H10.

Problem solved.

Hey, my H10 MTP is totally messed up (i bought it refurbished, i wasnt expecting much) i got the system files missing error, i tried the official Iriver fix & no luck so i ended up here, I d/l the auto installer for this & everytime i try to install the bootloader i get the message "Firmware does not exist:F://SYSTEM/H10EMP.mi4" just wondering if someone could please help me

Thanks, that did work when I tried it a day later.  Previously, the player would not even boot into UMS so that the PC would recognize.  A day later it did boot and I installed the files.
