ipod 5G video 30G battery usage much more efficient

(1/1)

spurty:
Is it just my imagination or have others noticed a big improvement regarding battery consumption? When using the builds from about a month ago until about a week ago I'd have a drained ipod within two days when not using it at all. Turned the ipod on this morning and it has almost as much power as when I turned it off yesterday. I noticed this improvement going from a build approximately r149xx (sorry can't remember exactly) to r15049-071009 (what I have on there now). Though there are some glichy things about the build I'm afraid to go to the most current build because the battery life is so good now. One of the glichy things is not being able to turn on the ipod by Select or Menu -- got reset with a Menu+Select long press now. This may be way premature and unscientific (didn't use battery bench or anything) but the change is so obvious as to be apparent without scientific methods.

Wow, crossing my fingers hoping you whiz kids have this issue tackled now. Kudos regardless!

GodEater:
I would imagine you've just discovered the benefits of the fixed "randomly turn on and waste your battery while you're asleep" bug.

Sweet Spot:
Are there more details about this "turn on while you're sleeping" bug ? I was just looking about to see if any improvements have been made battery wise, since I haven't upgraded my build for a few months now.  Sounds like it's time, eh ?

spurty:
I had no idea about the "random on" issue. I thought the battery draining while I was sleeping and the iPod was off was all part of the global issue of inefficient battery usage. I would definitely recommend upgrading to a more recent build. Battery time during use is still the same and not 100% efficient. But I haven't experienced 20% drops in battery when the iPod is supposedly off.

By the way is there a page to see the change log  from build to build?

Chronon:
If you click on the Subversion link on the main page it will take you to a list of recent revisions.  From there you can find links to pages listing changes going back to the 2.5 release if you like.
