Rockbox+Itunes
(1/1)
clueless1:
I have rockbox on my nano (1st generation) and was wondering if Itunes will still work with my ipod or will my ipod just crash.
AlexP:
It will work fine, but you will have to use the rockbox database to get sensible access to your music in rockbox as iTunes transfers your music with stupid filenames and in a stupid directory structure.
scharkalvin:
Which means that if you want to use rockbox and still use itunes you (probably) need to boot the OF when using itunes to add music to the player. If you want to ever use the OF sometimes to play music then you MUST ONLY use itunes to add music because any
music files you add in a "normal" directory fashion will NOT be seen by the OF.
In my case I sometimes might want to plug my ipod into a remote control system (such as ihome or the Niles GXR2 ipod interface) which require the ipod running the OF
(since rockbox does NOT support the rs232 control interface in the ipod). I'd therefore
have to use itunes (or gtkpod) to add music.
BTW, the ipod serial control interface protocol IS documented someplace on the web, is enough known about the ipod serial interface hw to implement this in rockbox? (might be something I'd like to look into)

It's documented in IPL's wiki. The problem is that it's currently unknown how to program the actual serial hardware (except 1st to 3rd Gen).
