Rhapsody Channels still work after Rockbox install??
« on: October 11, 2007, 03:20:43 PM »
Sorry to ask something that may have been already answered, but I can't find a solid answer, at all. Does anyone know through experience if the Rhapsody Channels and other subscription tracks still work after Rockboxing the R series players??

Do not ask the same question multiple times.

I have left this thread open and removed your other two identical questions from the other two threads.

Please go and read the posting guidelines you agreed to when you signed up.

Yeah, didn't mean to ask multiple times, should have just started a new thread to begin with. Was trying to find a recent thread with a similar ongoing discussion. My bad. Since you are a Rockbox expert, any answers to my question?

I don't own a Sansa, but I don't think anyone has tried it.  It shouldn't affect it at all, but until someone does try we can't say for absolute certain.

If someone has tried, I'm sure someone will let us know.

Being a Rockbox expert neither means he knows everything about Rockbox, nor means he knows *anything* about the original firmware of various players. It's mostly a sign to show that he's someone we've recognized as showing a willingness to try to make sure the answers he will give are both accurate and well explained.

As Rockbox is intended as a replacement firmware, "Dual Boot" is offered, when possible, primarily as a courtesy or convenience than anything else.

I'm just concerned that the unit would become unregistered to Rhapsody after modding it and may cause problems with subscription TO GO tracks and mostly the Rhapsody Channels. If it does mess that up, I'm wondering if it would be reversible. Also , maybe if the player is recognized differently by Rhapsody after mod, maybe it's just a matter of reregistering the ("new") unit with Rhapsody. Anyway, my other question about the "R" series is, "is there yet a working way to mod the theme, I know you can with H3mod on non R series, what about R, working yet?

I also realize the dual boot function, but it seems to me something is disabled in the R series firmware in order to install. Didn't know if that effectively messes up any DRM or key that Rhapsody looks for.

As I say, I don't think we know for sure.

I don't think you understand what rockbox is - it isn't a mod, it is a complete replacement firmware.  It just so happens we make it that you can dual boot.  I don't know what H3Mod is, it is nothing to do with us.

To clarify slightly: H3Mod is not our software, and has nothing to do with Rockbox at all.

Don't know if you saw my last edit on my last post, but yes, I definitely understand what Rockbox is. Does it modify the original R series firmware? YES, I do believe it has to, to install on an R series, no?

It does not modify it, it replaces it.  It is completely independent of the Sansa firmware.

In fact, on the R-series, you're loading the original firmware from a file, rather than from the firmware partition. It pretty much depends on how they store and index their DRM keys, or whatever's used to handle the channels.

Replaces it, then how does it still dual boot? Replaces Sansa firmware with hacked Sansa firmware and Rockbox firmware?

We insert a bootloader which then allows you to boot either the OF or rockbox.  It is akin to dual-booting Windows and Linux or your PC.  Linux is not a mod of Windows, they exist seperately.

We replace it. You're still able to dual boot IF you take a file copy of your firmware (OF.mi4) and put it in the right place that we can have our firmware load their firmware.

I understand the dual booting, but how if hes saying it replaces the firmware. It sits beside it sort of correct?
