E260R won't boot Rockbox firmware (used Windows method)
« on: October 10, 2007, 08:38:30 PM »
I've followed the instructions to load Rockbox on my e200R via windows and got it to say that it is reading and writing the bootloader in recovery mode.  However, it says it took only 0 secs to do.  I pushed forward, not sure if this was correct.  I can't seem to download the pp5022.mi4 file however.  I went to daniel.haxx.se site and used the one there.  I'm not sure if this was correct either.  Anyway, when I did the reboot, it just loaded up in the original firmware.

I must note that I was not asked to install the libusb0.dll, only the libusb0.sys.  Also, I was not presented a choice to install 0666-E200.inf.  I went to the Device Manager to "update Driver" and it just updated it without asking me which file to use/choose.

So my Sansa doesn't seem to be harmed in any way, it just doesn't boot Rockbox.  Any suggestions or ideas?  Thanks in advance.

I'm far from the smartest guy here but you didn't mention extracting the .rockbox folder to your sansa. Did you do that?

You're lucky you got that far.  I'm still stuck on the bootloader part.

You have the follow the directions here (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200RInstallationFromWindows) after bootloader patching. The PP5022.mi4 file needs the be the Rockbox BL (i.e. http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/e200R/pp5022.mi4), not the original firmware.

I'd use the LiveCD Ubuntu method guys. It's much easier.

I did this, but the 2nd link always came up as an html page on firefox.  I used another computer and it let me download the file instead.  After transferring the file to the computer I used originally, I installed it as was written.  Everything works fine.  By the way, can the Rockbox Utility still be used to download themes and update the firmware (.rockbox) files?  Thanks.

Mice have two buttons for a reason ;)
Hint: Right click, then "Save As".

I tried that, but was not given the option.  I could save the link though.  Anyway, now I have a new problem.  I can't seem to boot the original Sansa firmware.  I get a message stating trying to boot from the partition, but it's an invalid file format.  The player then turns to black and the thumbwheel stays lit.  I have to hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds to shut it down.  Don't know what to do now.

You have to follow the directions. A copy of the original firmware must be in the System folder and be named "OF.mi4".

Thanks for the reminder.  However, I have done this.  I actually used the pp5022.mi4 file from the Sandisk site.  I renamed it and placed it in the system folder as per the instructions.  I've also tried reinstalling the bootloader countless times.  Nothing has worked so far.  I can still only load Rockbox.

You probably experienced a bug in the previous version of the rockbox bootloader. There's a new one around now (since about 9 hours ago) that works better.
