Gigabeat F40 - AC Input Accident!

(1/2) > >>

samamanjaro:
I stupidly put a

Input: AC ~110V-230V 60/50Hz 17W
Output: DC ~9V 2000mA

Adapter in my Gigabeat, which when placed in lit up the backlight, screen went white, then the player died...

When I place the headphones in, there is no crackle as it slides into the jack as it used to, I fear that the battery is not the only thing dead, how can I save it (buy a new daughter board, battery) I would at least like to learn how to extract the data off the HDD (is it fine??), so I can buy a new Rockbox compatible device, what would be fried, nothing I can see looks burnt or weird.

Help, Sam!

scharkalvin:
If you are lucky just the voltage regulator went bad.

samamanjaro:
so how can I check if that is the only problem?

samamanjaro:
hello, how do I fix this?

rosco_pc:
If you want to fix this you need to have knowledge of electronics and soldering.

If you would like to check if the HDD is still working, you need to be a extrenal USB case for 1.8" HDD. Just make sure that you have a case with the correct connector, ie 50 pins, like this one sold in the UK: http://www.span.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=19_1301_1311&products_id=5493. You'll most likely find similar ones on ebay.
