Help! frozen 30GB ipod video 5g

I just updated my rockbox firmware by unzipping the current build onto the device's root.  Now rockbox will freeze at the startup.  The ipod will display the rockbox logo, but will not do anything else.  All I can do is reboot the ipod.... but same ole same ole.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When was the last time you updated the bootloader?

hi - same problem after I loaded r15286 (071024). I reloaded with last functioning build, did not fix problem. verified most current bootloader, reloaded 15266: freezes on rockbox screen.
