questions on wps and fm radio, linux simulator?
« on: October 07, 2007, 03:37:00 PM »
Is there a way for the format of the time display selected in the settings to be followed in the WPS?  I had to modify the .wps file I downloaded for my E200 in order to get 12hr format even though that was selected in the settings menu (only applied to the main menu display).  It doesn't appear that there are any WPS tags to display the time  in the format stored in the .cfg.  Same with the fm screen.  BTW is there a way to configure the FM radio screen display?  (That would be nice, to have a WPS setup for the fm radio).

Finally, how about a rockbox simulator that runs on Linux?

There is no way to have a WPS follow the config settings, due to the flexibility of the WPS code. Simply modify a WPS to meet your needs, as needed.

There is no way to theme the FM radio display, nobody has come up with an effective patch.

The simulator runs just fine on Linux, how are you compiling it?

I haven't tried to compile the simulator (yet) on linux (I mean I want it to RUN on Linux, not just build an exe for windows ON Linux).  Are the sources for the simulator in the same .bz2 file as the Rockbox sources?

All sources are in svn, and that is packed to the tarball regularly ... as it's only a simulator and not an emulator there are dependencies to the source itself so it wouldn't make sense to have them separated completely.

And if compiled on Linux, you're compiling a native Linux binary unless you perform extra steps to create a windows one.

Simply put, if you'd actually tried it, you'd have found that it runs just fine in Linux if you compile it in Linux. If you're downloading it from somebody else's site rather than creating it the way you're supposed to, of course we can't be responsible if they only provide binaries for one OS.

Linux and windows use different graphical libraries.
So the design of the simulator would be a bit different between
Linux and Windows, unless the windows version used a 'bridge'
package to support xwindows graphics.  I'm assuming that's
how it was done here.

Anyway, I will read the documentation that came with the source and see
if I can figure out how to build the Rockbox simulator and player binaries
on my Debian machine for both the E200 and iPod mini now that I got the
complier tools built and the path set right.

The simulators on both platforms are using SDL - which is a cross platform library. This means the sim works on linux, OSX and Windows, and in fact anything else which SDL runs on.

Hi,
I would also be interested in a "complete" theme, well at least the radio display  ;)
What about the patch done by Jonathan Gordon :
http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/3024
Has someone tried it ? I couldn't find a compiled firmware including it  ???
Regards
David

Well, the task is closed as 'out of date' and was probably even more seriously broken by the WPS tokeniser functionality that was committed shortly before the task was closed.
