ihp-120 problems, disk, mobo?
stinkingpig:
Hi all,
I have an iHP-120 which recently lost its hard drive to a classic head crash. I bought a replacement mk2006gal drive, which promptly failed and got sent back for an RMA. The replacement drive from the same vendor seemed fine for a couple of days, but today I got the dreaded ATA -11 error. I took the DAP apart again, reseated the drive, and it worked fine.
Seems to me that the drive's firmware or the motherboard are potential fail points -- is my iRiver finally biting it? Or should I try a different drive vendor?
Opinions welcome,
Multiplex:
There is apparently a problem with the H100s where the interconnections between boards fails. Try looking for messages from LinusN mentioning the H100 players and soldering...
Here's one to be going on with that may be helpful;

Thanks for the reply, though it makes me sad -- my soldering skills are not so good, and I've wrecked more than I've fixed. So, I guess I'll be saving up for a replacement DAP.

If you're going to be replacing it anyway, why not give it a shot first? If you can't use the player already, it'll still be unable to be used if you make it worse.

because if I ruin it, it's useful to no one; if I leave it in a "fixable by someone else" state, I can sell it to someone who can fix it, or donate it to rockbox. I would consider paying someone else to fix it though. Anyone in the SF Bay Area familiar with what needs to be done?
