No ipods found?

I'm trying to install Rockbox, but it keeps telling me it can't install because there aren't any ipods or devices hooked up to my computer. I tried manually selecting the USB port and iPod model, I tried doing the auto find thing, and I don't know what else to do.
My iPod and USB are definitely working, because iTunes sees it fine.
Sorry if this is a stupid question. I admit I'm a n00b. Is there something else I need to download?

Select disk mode in itunes.  You need it to connect with a drive letter, not in itunes.  This is in the manual!

Ok, sorry for that stupid question. But now:

Does Rockbox not recognize songs purchased from iTunes?

Rockbox does not support songs with DRM, so unless you bought DRM free songs from itunes, no.
