iPod 4G: Charging problem
j.e.f.f:
Hi folks.
I put RockBox on a 4th generation iPod last week (it was the most recent build at the time), and I'm having a strange problem when I try to charge it:
When I plug it in to the USB port, RockBox automatically starts up. If I either shut it down, or wait for the idle time to shut the player down automatically, it will automatically start right back up and boot into the RockBox interface -- meanwhile the battery will not charge. In order to charge the battery I need to boot the iPod under the Apple firmware for it to go into charge mode. I did a search, but was unable to find anyone else with this problem, so I don't know of any workaround for this if it exists.
I also have RockBox on a Nano. It's been installed for nearly 2 years, but I have not experienced this problem on it.
I appreciate any help that can be provided.
Thanks!

1) Plz and thx are not real words. Our forum guidelines are enforced here. I assume you read them like you agreed to while signing up?
2) The iPod cannot charge while off. It automatically boots up when USB is inserted, this is not something we can do anything about. The Apple software suffers from the same thing, it just pretends to be off after a time.

The Sandisk Sansa E200 has a similar behavior. Here however, when the player is plugged into the usb while off it boots the OF. When plugged into a charger while off it boots rockbox. If I hold the left arrow while plugging in the usb it will boot the OF.
If I shut off the unit while it is plugged into a charger it won't turn off, however if running the OF it shows a charging screen.
So for the ipod while the unit is off plug in the usb and then move the hold switch to lock to boot the OF and charge the ipod.

So I need to boot up RockBox _BEFORE_ I plug it in to the USB in order for it to charge? What if it's completely dead?
